FATAL: Man dies when bakkie crashes into tree

Emergency services had to use the Jaws of Life to gain access to the man.

NEWCASTLE – A man believed to be in his 40s sustained fatal injuries, when the bakkie he was travelling in collided into a tree on Albert Wessels Drive on Saturday, June 25.

According to officials at the scene, it is speculated the man lost control of the vehicle.

“The Jaws of Life had to be used to gain access to the man and assess the extent of his injuries,” said ER24 paramedic, Myra van der Merwe. “He was declared dead on the scene.”

The exact cause of the incident is unknown, however officials were on scene to conduct preliminary investigations.
