Mortuary celebrates a decade of existence

MEC Dhlomo addressed Forensic Pathology workers and applauded them for their dedication to their duties

MEC for Health in KZN, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, together with Health Department officials from various districts, hosted an event at the Crown Hotel on Friday morning in celebration of the fact that the Forensic Mortuary has been in existence for 10 years.

At the hotel, MEC Dhlomo addressed Forensic Pathology workers and applauded them for their dedication to their duties.

“Your work is crucial. Seeing corpses, sometimes badly decomposed, on a day to day basis is emotional, which leads to trauma. Today, we are here to tell you that we appreciate the work you guys do for our community,” said the MEC.

He further stated that his department will try and remedy all challenges facing Forensic Mortuaries with regards to staff shortages (“even if it means I must perform dissections myself” he quipped), as this department is still developing.

Maphili Mbhele from Forensics stated that they are aiming for 100 years of good service.
