Doctor Abel Thwala did not have a good Saturday morning in Dundee. First, he was pulled over on Victoria Street by a RTI officer who asked him if he had been drinking.
“I had been drinking. In fact, I was drunk,” the 40-year-old told the Courier.
He claims the officer asked him for money and he gave the office R100. “He took the money then he started writing out a fine saying I was not wearing my safety belt which was a R300 fine. He took the bribe money but then gave me another fine – it is really unfair.”
Mr Thwala, who gave his address as Phumlong, Kempton Park, says he immediately went to the Dundee Police Station to make a statement that the officer had taken a bribe but was ‘told to go’ as he was under the influence.
“This is not right… I want that officer exposed,” he said. He said he would be going back to the police to make another statement, saying what had happened to him.
