THE current drought is the worst since the 1980’s and the implications could have dire consequences on the country’s food security.

Local business, BMG, has undertaken to spearhead a campaign at all of their branches to benefit farmers and farmworkers who are in dire need of assistance. The goal of this compassionate initiative is to collect non-perishable food items to be distributed to areas hardest hit by the crisis.

Together with AgriSA, who will assist BMG with the distribution to the various agricultural affiliates, they will further distribute it to farmers and farmworkers in need and report back on where food has been distributed.

“While the immediate impact of the drought will be felt by the producer, the consumer will feel the effects as well through shortages of products and price increases of related commodities. This is why Agri SA supports initiatives like ‘Voer ‘n Boer’ as each contribution makes a difference to those in need,” writes Christo van der Rheede, Deputy Executive Director at AgriSA.”
