During the week of May 24- 28, the annual South African Dance Iinstitute (SADI) Dance Awards took place in Roodepoort, Gauteng. Unity Dance Studio had the privilege of attending this prestigious event. This was the first year that this new dance studio participated under the guidance of dance teacher, Chané Bekker, and the dedicated dancers brought home wonderful results.

Of the ten dancers that were in attendance, their combined efforts brought home 14 A’s, 2 B+’s and 2 B’s, and received 6 special awards. This was achieved by various solo’s, duets, trio’s and quartets, including two duets with the student’s own choreography.

Anke Slump and Kayla Becker also received their North-Gauteng Federation Colours in Modern Jazz, with Kayla receiving the highest marks of all the dancers who entered for Federation Colours.

During the dance awards, students were identified by the adjudicators whom they earmarked as dancers with potential. Unity Dance Studio is very proud to announce that the following dancers have been invited to attend the SADI Global Tour 2017 in Dubai: Anke Slump, Caitlyn Scheepers, Chané Bekker, Geoanie Schwarts, Kayla Becker, and Rebekka Barnard.

The annual scholarship, which includes all tuition fees during the 2017 Dubai tour, was also awarded to Geoanie Schwartz.
