Must read: Commuters stranded amid taxi strike

An unknown man made an announcement on Newcastle Community Radio last night urging all taxi drivers to stop all operations today until their demands are met.

NEWCASTLE – Commuters were left stranded and in the dark this morning following an unannounced taxi strike.

Many residents in Madadeni and oSizweni are still struggling to organise transport to get them to work or school.

According to Dumisani Ntuli of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO), Amajuba District, the association was unaware of the pending strike.

Allegedly, an unidentified man made an announcement on Newcastle Community Radio last night, urging all taxi drivers to stop all operations today until demands are met. At this stage, it is not known what the demands are.
