Edrich Nortjé gaan op die 1ste en 2de Julie aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Kadet (0/17) Stoei Kampioenskappe in Pretoria deelneem.
In die laaste week van die vakansie vertrek hy na Algerië om aan die Kadet Afrika Stoeikampioenskappe in die 50 – 54kg vrystyl afdeling deel te neem. Die skool glo dat alles goed sal verloop en dat hierdie jong man met goud in sy sak en baie avontuurverhale in sy hart veilig terug sal keer na Dundee. DHS wens hom alle voorspoed toe!
DHS’s Mrs Carter and Co – creating a fun learning environment with a new spin on graffiti
One could easily become just a number in a school building where the walls all look the same and learners walk around in an emotionless state, trying to survive through the day. Some of them try to spice things up with the misguided intention to “beautify” the school by leaving their marks on desks and walls. There is a huge difference between vandalism and graffiti.
Mrs Carter, passionate art teacher with a zest for life, has decided to point this vital difference out to the learners and simultaneously beautify the school on a level that teenagers would appreciate, understand and enjoy. She found inspiration from well-known graffiti artists like Bansky and Seth. Bansky is a stencil-based street artist who started out in southern England but is now internationally known. His work is shown in galleries and even celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have purchased his work for substantial amounts of money. Seth is a street muralist from Paris who is able to transform boring walls into inspirational and thought provoking art pieces. This is exactly what Mrs Carter and her crew of enthusiastic young artists are using their paintbrushes to do!
They are replacing the boring and mundane with vibrant colours that exude a passion for living, following one’s dreams and individuality. DHS is not merely an educational facility where learners are numbers in a system. It is a school filled with creative minds ready to take over the world!
