Dumping smothers river banks

PARADISE – Finnemore Street is earning an unsavoury reputation as dumping central.

This has led to litter infiltrating the grounds of the Paradise Hindu Temple.

Devotees have expressed frustration at this gross development, calling upon the municipality for urgent intervention.

They feel signage decrying dumping is simply inadequate.

“That people still do this is disgusting; the municipality needs to take drastic measures to stop this from continuing.”

Linked to this problem is abuse and overfilling of the garden refuse skip bins, situated at the crossing of Finnemore and Bird streets.

The contents of one of the skips was set alight twice in the last week.

During the course of his investigations, Ward Councillor, Bertie Meiring said he previously asked for the matter to be raised in the relevant portfolio meeting.

“I asked that three skip bins be placed in proximity to each other, but sadly, there was no money to spare on the budget.”

Cllr Meiring believes the correct action could establish Finnemore Street as a dedicated site for the dumping of garden refuse.

However, his next move was stalled until July this year.

The municipality was approached for comment on this matter through its formal channels, but failed to respond at the time of going to print.

For residents, it’s more of the same old hat.
