St Gregory end second term’s sport on a high note

The girls stepped up to the challenge though and started the tournament on a high note by winning their first two matches

The grade one and two girls went to Mooi River on Tuesday, May 24, to play in the Treverton hockey festival. The two teams had to be merged into one team as a result of a high number of learners that couldn’t play due to various seasonal illnesses.

The girls stepped up to the challenge though and started the tournament on a high note by winning their first two matches 2-0 (vs Cowan House 2) and 1-0 (vs Cowan House 3). Fatigue stepped in, however, and the girls lost the rest of their six matches 0-1 (vs Clifton 2), 0-2 (vs Cowan House D), 0-1 (vs Winterton) and 0-1 (vs Cowan House D).

Player of the Day was awarded to Yothando Hadebe. The Most Promising Player award was awarded to Claire Morris, Rachel Botha and Abongile Dlungwane.

The next day, May 25, the u/9 and u/10 girls took the road to Mooi River to play a match against Mooi River Primary School. The weather was chilly, but the girls still gave their best. The u/9 girls were aggressive in their attack and strong in their defence and managed to win 2-0. The u/10s tried hard, but unfortunately lost 0-5.

The u/9 awards were as follow: Player of the Match was awarded to Nthabiseng Selepe and Olwenkosi Duma. The Most Promising Player went to Shamaine Bere.

The Player of the Match awards for the u/10s were awarded to Amahle Dladla and Thandiswa Mzobe. Aidah Rahman was chosen as the Most Promising Player.

The u/9 and u/10 soccer team played a match against Estcourt Christian Academy (ECA) on May 26. It was a nail biting game with both teams evenly matched. Both teams had many opportunities to score, but the game was drawn 0-0.

The Most Promising Player award went to Anele Mngadi and Thabiso Strydom. Player of the Match was awarded to Monde Khumalo.

On Friday, May 27, a team of St Greg’s runners travelled to Treverton to take part in a Cross Country event. It was a tough route, but the location was lovely.
