ATM swindler tricks man out of R6 000

After reporting the card to Nedbank, he received an SMS reporting that R1000 had been withdrawn.

On May 7, R6 000 was stolen from a man’s account after he received help from a stranger at the ATM in Boxer Supermarket. A stranger standing behind him in the queue offered his assistance.
He inserted the card and punched in the pin code while the stranger stood next to him. The fraudster disappeared and left the man with a false card.
Later, money was withdrawn from his account. Another incident took place in the same shop on June 3 after  a man’s card got stuck in the ATM. After reporting the card to Nedbank, he received an SMS reporting that R1000 had been withdrawn.
In a separate incident, on June 2, a man received a call informing him that he shared a cellphone number with someone else and requested that he confirm his details. Later, his phone switched off and when he called Vodacom, he was told his number had been sim-swapped. When he went to the bank, he discovered that an amount of R2798 was stolen from his account. Suspects are unknown. Cases are under investigation.
