THE South African Dancing Institute Competition (SADI) which took place in Roodepoort offers dance students the opportunity to showcase their talent.

One of these students was the talented young Megan De Beer, who is certainly no stranger to the stage.

“Megan was excited to see all her dance friends,” stated Megan’s proud mother, Marina. “At SADI the dancers feels like family, respecting each other and appreciating other dancers, teachers and choreography.”

Excitement grew among the participants as the dancing began on the Thursday. Megan started off with her Modern/Jazz Character followed by her Jazz Solo, Hip Hop Solo and Improvisation. Megan entered for her Modern/Jazz Federation colours in the Pre-Amateur section and got gold for all three of her dances and received her Modern/Jazz Federation Colours with an average of 83%. Megan also received gold for her Hip Hop Solo and a Special Award.

In a contemporary piece called ‘Beauty,’ Megan not only danced, but also portrayed a powerful message to each and every teenage girl and woman who had the privilege of watching her perform.

“Inside each woman there is something so beautiful,” enthuses Megan. “You are perfect in each and every way.”

Megan made a great impression on the judges with her magnificent performance and was awarded a double gold for her contemporary solo with a special award.

‘This was absolutely the best contemporary piece we have seen so far in this competition.” said one of the judges. “This dance and music is touching my heart deeply. Well done, girl.” said another. “Love the strong message and song.”

Megan also performed a Hip Hop Duet with Caity Scheepers and a Modern Duet with Kayla Becker, both of which she choreographed and both of which got gold in the competition.

At the end of Saturday night, SADI chose a South African team to travel to Dubai, where students will receive training from professional dance teachers and choreographers. They will also be attending various dance workshops. Megan was selected to be a part of this team and will be traveling to Dubai in 2017.

“Great dancers are not great because of their technique,” says Megan in closing. “They are great because of their passion.”
