The South African Air Force (SAAF) Silver Falcons Team 79 arrived in town on Sunday.

While the team waits for the event kick-off, Team 79 will visit local schools to bring aviation directly to classrooms.

“The Silver Falcons are one of the major attractions at this year’s airshow,” said Johan Pieters, MD of Champ Marketing. “We are honoured to be one of a few events affiliated to this prestigious team and the SAAF.”

While the pilots take their aircraft up into the sky, visitors to the airshow have more than enough entertainment on ground level.

This includes food stalls and a beer garden, manned by Ncandu 86 Round Table.

“From vehicle exhibitions to some of the most exciting planes in the country, right down to toddlers’ haircuts and pampering for mom, you can find it all at the Newcastle Airshow.”

Organisers are also excited to announce the return of the Play Park to keep children busy.

For the more adventurous, helicopter flips are available from 10am, while those who prefer terra firma can enjoy performances from Menno Parsons in his P51 Mustang Sally, the awesome Tiger Huey ZS-HGC and the thrilling Aero L39 Albatros.

Don’t miss Neville Ferreira’s Slick 540 tackling the ferocious Mercedes-Benz AMG.

While it is all fun and games, organisers are again giving pupils the opportunity to attend the airshow and learn in the process.

“We will host an Ubuntu Education Day for Grade 11 pupils taking mathematics and science. 700 youngsters from across NKZN will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to

enjoy themselves and learn about aviation.”

The pupils are also set for presentations by the Civil Aviation Authority and Denel Aviation, meeting the Silver Falcons and education from the SAAF, Vodacom and Air Traffic Navigation Services.

To schedule your pupils, contact Sanele Hlatshwayo on 074 499 3817.

“You can’t miss the Newcastle Airshow this year. Grab your binoculars, camera and sunglasses, and make your way to the Newcastle Airport on June 4.”

Tickets are available at the gates from 8am, and cost R50 per adult and R30 for children.
