Friendship across the sea help develop education in rural area

International relationships across the Atlantic Ocean have resulted in rural school children in the Rorke’s Drift area benefiting from a generous sponsorship programme.
Dan Yonker of the Lutheran Church in Missouri in the United States was here last week to donated R45 000 to the project that will assist in buying school uniforms for needy pupils.
Working with the local Lutheran Church at Rorke’s Drift, the project has been  assisting with education since 2008.
“There is a programme where we assist hundreds of needy children who are listed as being needy and are waiting for a sponsor. Once you agree to sponsor a child with the equivalent in dollars of R1500, you can follow the child’s progress through school to ensure that the money goes towards education,” Mr Yonker said.

Pastor Duma said the Ikhayalethu Care Centre at Shiyane had been sponsored a green house to assist with a garden project. Hopes are high that the Centre will also be electrified. Anyone wanting more information regarding the project can call Rev Duma on 078 0411 177.
