Suspected copper cable thief arrested

The confiscated copper cable is worth approximately R15 000 and its origin is currently being investigated by police

The country has always been plagued by cable theft, for some time though, this paralysing crime stalled.

Only for it to rear its ugly head once again last Monday evening, May 16. A tip-off directed Wembezi police officers, to a house in the Five Room section of Wembezi.

Upon their arrival they arrested a 38-year-old man, who was found in possession of an allegedly stolen copper cable.

“A community member supplied officers with the information, this is an indication that our community is tired of crime and willing to work with police to curb criminal activities,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The confiscated copper cable is worth approximately R15 000 and its origin is currently being investigated by police. The suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning, May 17 relating to the charges he faces.
