A police raid in the Gorton area of Amangwe yielded success on Wednesday, May 11.

Whilst busy with an anti-crime operation at a tavern in the area, police also recovered an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of ammunition from a 35-year-old man.

The man was arrested and charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if it may have been used in any crime in the country,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 12.
