MOTH turns 89 years old

Memorable Order Of Tin Hats (MOTH) held a parade last Sunday morning in celebration of its 89th anniversary.

Memorable Order Of Tin Hats (MOTH) held a parade last Sunday morning in celebration of its 89th anniversary.

MOTH was established on May 7, 1927, by a group of ex-servicemen led Charles Evenden, a soldier who fought in Egypt and Gallipoli during World War I.

He emigrated to South Africa and was working as a journalist in Durban, when he founded the order to help fellow comrades in need, either financially or physically.

The movement grew and men who dedicated their lives to the military, soon found hope.

On Sunday, Moths at the parade were reminded of their oath when first initiated into the order; that of true comradeship.
