His kindness and respectful nature have earned bus driver, Jomo Nxumalo, accolades from his community and his employer, Transnat Coaches.
Jomo was honoured last Sunday at an event held at Rutland Primary School, Dannhauser area, where he was awarded by the company for which he has driven bus 005 for the past 12 years.
He serves commuters in Dannhauser, Dundee and Newcastle.
Fikile Mlothshwa, who was one of those passengers who nominated Jomo for the award,said that ‘he is always smiling and helps passengers with their groceries. We have never seen him cross or scold anyone.’
A. Gert, Transnat’s financial manager, said the aim of the awards was to nurture co-operation between the company and their passengers and ‘to promote peace in the public transport sector’.
Mr Gert said the company completes an annual survey of all their drivers.

 

The company officials, bus drivers, ticket inspectors and the community attended the function. Jomo could not hold back tears of joy when the community came forward to present him with gifts.

Other drivers were also encouraged to respect their commuters. Mr Gert stated that Transnat are working in the community and it also important for the company to respect them (the community).
“If we misbehave we won’t be doing business with the community at large.”

“Thank you very much for nominating me and presenting me with the presents. I was not expecting such a big day you have organised for me and it shows that I am doing my level best to work with you. It is good to create a good relationship with the people you working with and you see them every day,” he told the Courier.
