The teacher was declared missing and a search ended in tragedy at the end of March when his body was found

A breakthrough has been made in the murder and kidnapping of Bergville teacher Mgcini Raymond Mabizela. The 47-year-old was found buried in a hole and his corpse covered with a carpet in Wembezi on March 31.

This was days after a missing persons report was filed on March 24. Mr Mabizela’s girlfriend 28-year-old Fikelephi Ngubane has been arrested and charged for the murder and kidnapping.

She appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court and the case was remanded to Friday, May 6 for a bail application. It is believed that Ms Ngubane allegedly lured the Bergville teacher to Wembezi where he was kidnapped by a man identified as ‘another boyfriend’.

The teacher was declared missing and a search ended in tragedy at the end of March when his body was found. Police made a second advancement when they arrested a man at a bus stop in Isipingo, Durban on Saturday, April 3.

They believe that he is linked to the teacher’s murder and has been charged with murdering and kidnaping Mr Mabizela on March 11. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for responding so speedily to the murder and progressively with the subsequent investigation.

“It is a sad reality that most murders are committed by those the victims love and trust the most. Incidents like this are unnecessary, cruel and inhumane. We will do everything that is within our control to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” she said.
