Has Eaton Road park become the new dumping spot?

The Eaton Road park in Amiel Park has received a lot of online attention, as residents raise awareness of a litter issue which seems to be taking place at the park grounds.

The battle of the parks continues, as yet another Newcastle playground came under fire.

The Eaton Road park in Amiel Park has received a lot of online attention, as residents raise awareness of a litter issue which seems to be taking place at the park grounds.

Black bags full of house hold refuse can be found scattered around park equipment, making it difficult for neighbourhood children to use.

Although park equipment appear to be in mint condition, indicating recent repairs were done, the litter is a new challenge this park faces.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was utterly disgusted at the way people treated park grounds. She said it seemed the battle was never-ending.

“How are we supposed to allow our children to use the park? It is filthy! Who knows what diseases or sicknesses they can get from playing there, with all the rubbish that is being thrown around?”

She also mentioned she had witnessed, on more than one occasion how people would drive past the park and throw their refuse out their vehicles, and thought it was very disrespectful towards the residents of Eaton Road.

“People need to stand together and protect what belongs to the children. We want our children to be able to play outside and enjoy their childhood, but it’s becoming difficult as others are destroying their playgrounds. This needs to stop,” she concluded.

Ward Councillor, Bertie Meijering, said he was not aware of the issue before, but would follow up with the correct departments to have the park kept clean.

“It is disgraceful to think people abuse the park, but I will try my best to stop the litter problems there,” he promised.

The Newcastle Sun contacted the municipality communications department about the conditions at the park, but no information was received at the time of going to print.
