Premier Senzo Mchunu and Housing MEC, Ravi Pillay, are in Endumeni today as the August 3 local government election campaign gets into top gear.
The thorny issue of completing the handing out of title deeds to those who, for years have rented State houses in the municipal area, is likely to be addressed by the MEC.
Title deeds still need to be handed over in Glenridge and in some parts of Dundee. The housing shortage – especially in Forestdale which last year saw residents building illegal shacks to protest the delay – is also expected to be addressed.
Previous MECs have all promised the title deed hand over and housing projects but with this local government election expected to the closest since the dawn of democracy, the ruling party is likely to pull out all the stops.
The rise of the EFF is likely to further complicate the election results for the ANC and with the DA competing in every ward, the likelihood of there being a ‘hung’ Council come August 4 is very real.
