A TAVERN brawl turned into a bloodbath during the Easter weekend when two men were hacked to death in Sasko.

According to an eyewitness, who was present during the incident, it all started when one of the men they were drinking with made advances towards a certain female.

“I’m not sure whether the woman did not like him, or she said something to upset him, because we saw this man slap and kick this woman in the ribs later that night,” said *Jabu.

The female is said to have run home to inform her boyfriend, who was sleeping at the time, of what had happened.

“In fury, the boyfriend then woke his brother and together, armed with pangas, the two made their way down to the tavern to sort the matter out like men,” Jabu continued.

At the tavern, a fight is said to have broken out and lots of blood was spilled.

“During the fight, the man who had hit the woman, and his accomplice got hold of the pangas and hacked both the boyfriend and his brother to death right before our eyes,” said a still bewildered Jabu.

“An ambulance was called and someone contacted the police, but by the time the ambulance arrived both men were done for,” said Jabu.

Two cases of murder were opened at the Vryheid SAPS and two arrests were made over the Easter weekend.

Both men have appeared in court and are currently in custody at Vryheid Prison.

The owner of the tavern was also arrested on charges of running an unlicensed tavern.
