Update: Well-known police officer passes away

Warrant Officer Mervin Pillay had 23 years’ service and was employed at Ladysmith Visible Policing

The Uthukela Cluster mourns the loss of three of its officers who have recently passed away unexpectedly.

They are Warrant Officer Vusi Henry Mhlongo who had 29 years’ service and was employed at the Ladysmith Stock Theft Unit, Constable Vincent Lucky Mazibuko who had nine years’ service and was employed at Van Reenen SAPS, and Warrant Officer Mervin Pillay who passed away yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon at La Verna Hospital.

44-year-old Warrant Officer Mervin Pillay was at home when he started to feel ill. Sharaj Ambulance Services rushed him to La Verna Hospital and he was placed in ICU, where he later passed away.

He had 23 years’ service and was employed at Ladysmith Visible Policing.

The cause of death is suspected to be a heart attack.

The Uthukela Cluster extend their sincere condolences to the families in this time of sadness.

The funeral of Warrant Officer Mervin Pillay will take place tomorrow (Thursday). The body will lie in state at his home at 66 Saffa Street and at 1.30pm will proceed to the Ladysmith Crematorium.
