Lighting the way to hope

Pam Golding Properties (PGP) believes no one should fight cancer alone.

Quoting a Facebook post, the team noted: “Nothing is more painful than watching someone at the end of their life, trying to smile and remain positive after chemo and radiation, knowing the person is physically changed and they suffer with this sadness.”

Samantha Wade, franchise principal, said many people were touched by the scourge of cancer, and the PGP team was no exception.

Unsurprisingly, each member of the team has been affected in some way.

This is either through the loss of a loved one, or supporting family and friends whose lives were turned upside down by cancer.

“So, without a second thought, the team has gladly volunteered to assist the Newcastle CANSA branch with its annual Shavathon, which takes place on March 12 (Saturday) at the Newcastle Mall.”

The PGP team, as a precursor to the Shavathon, decided to host a candle-lighting ceremony on the Friday (March 11), between 6pm and 8pm in the Pam Golding parking area on 70 Victoria Road.

The community at large is invited to be a part of this event.

“It will be in honour and loving memory of those who have lost their battle, to show solidarity and support for those still fighting, and to share the joy of those who have survived cancer.”

Candles inside white paper bags are available at the Pam Golding offices or Hutten Park Primary School for R5 each, with proceeds going to the Newcastle branch of CANSA.

Pictures, photographs and messages can be added to the paper bags.

“If you cannot attend the ceremony, you are welcome to leave a candle lantern with the PGP staff, who will light them on your behalf.”

Mrs Wade said considering the constant news of late, highlighting social unrest and conflict, she felt the community should come together for a good cause.

“It would be wonderful if we could unite with the common purpose of showing love, compassion and support for those going through the harrowing experience of fighting cancer, and to support our local non-profit organisation, which stands at the cold face of this terrible disease on a daily basis.”
