A pedestrian was fortunate to escape with her life, after being knocked over by a car at the intersection of Marconi Drive and Albert Wessels Drive last Tuesday morning, March 1.

An eyewitness claimed he was on his way to work when he witnessed the incident.

“It was just before 7am and I was turning into Marconi Drive, when I saw this woman try to cross the road and the car struck her,” said the witness, who wished to remain anonymous.

The pedestrian sustained injuries to her mouth and leg.

A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened by the SAPS.

Pedestrians are urged to adhere to the following regulations to avoid similar incidents:

1. Stand at the edge of the crossing and wait for traffic to come to a complete stop, before crossing.

2. If there is more than one lane to cross, be sure all approaching traffic has seen you.

3. Traffic must give way, once you are on a pedestrian crossing.

4. Wait for the traffic light to turn green and ensure vehicles have come to a complete stop before crossing.

5. Do not cross the road when the traffic light flashes a red figure.
