Two suspects have been arrested in a murder case in which an assault victim died as a result of his injuries.
During the latter part of February this year, a 23-year-old man was severely assaulted by people in Ezakheni C-Section. The suspects accused him of committing a housebreaking that had occurred in the area.
When Ezakheni police were informed about the incident, they opened a case of attempted murder. The injured man, 39-year-old Mondli Makhathini, passed away the following morning in hospital and a case of murder was opened.
Police conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Erick Nkosinathi Zulu (39) and Rodney Lucky Ngubane (44).
The suspects appeared briefly in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and were remanded into custody until March 8 for bail application.
KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Ezakheni detectives for their good work. “I would like to praise our members for their dedication during the investigation that led to the arrest of the murder suspects. We will ensure that these criminals will be convicted and sentenced accordingly,” she said.
