Bullets bring high-speed chase to an end

The suspects fled into the darkness as cops opened fire

Warning shots by police saw suspects abandoning a hijacked vehicle and fleeing on foot on Saturday night.

The hijacking took place on Saturday evening at around 7.45pm when a 50-year-old man was parking his vehicle at his home in Ezakheni E-Section. The man was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The elderly man was viciously assaulted. The two men then stole his  car.

Police spotted the vehicle in the Ladysmith CBD a short while later and gave chase.

At Rooi Section, Steadville, police managed to corner the vehicle and fired warning shots. The frightened suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into the darkness on foot.

A search for the hijackers is still continuing.
