Unlicensed firearms found in Msinga

Officers clamp down on crime in Msinga

Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police and Msinga police members have recovered unlicensed firearms following a joint operation in the Msinga area.

Officers were conducting visible patrols in Msinga when they received information about unlicensed firearms at Sampofu area.

The members conducted a search at various homesteads. Two men,  aged 21 and 58, were arrested after they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The first man was found in possession of a CZ 7.65 pistol with ammunition. The second arrest was that of a 58-year-old man, who  was found in possession of a 9mm pistol.

Both men will appear in the Msinga Magistrates Court facing possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. A third firearm, which was a shotgun, was found abandoned in the area.

The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, praised the members for working the whole night following up information about illegal firearms in this province. “The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country,” she said.
