Illegal dumping and sewer swamp in Aloe Park

The vacant land can no longer absorb any more sewer water and the raw effluent is now pushing into Lucknow Road

Not even 50m away from school buildings in Lucknow Road, Aloe Park, is a vacant plot of land which has turned into a sewer swamp over the years.

The vacant land can no longer absorb any more sewer water and the raw effluent is now pushing into Lucknow Road.

Children from the schools who cannot bear the stench anymore requested a special appointment with Cllr Abbas Warasally and addressed him regarding their problem. They also requested an on-site visit with him.

On visiting the area, Cllr Warasally was totally appalled with the situation. While there, he contacted uThukela, who promised to go out and fix the blocked sewer.

One pupil requested Cllr Warasally to go across the road, where it is now becoming a major dumpsite. He made contact with the Hygiene Department at Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality to clean up the area before the end of this week.

Cllr Warasally urges all pupils to contact him regarding issues that concern them within their communities. He also makes an appeal to residents to report illegal dumping to Community Services on 036-631-1777 or to contact him directly.
