New parking meter systems have been installed in various areas of town.
The meters were operational from yesterday (Saturday).
This is how they work: Every parking bay has been marked with a unique number. A motorist enters the bay number on the terminal, selects the period he wishes to park for, and inserts sufficient coins as indicated on the screen. The user can pay at any of the terminals in the CBD by entering the parking bay number.
There is no receipt or voucher for the user to display in the vehicle.
The meters will be operational from 8am to 5pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 2pm on weekends.
The tariff for one hour of parking is R6, and users can pay in increments of R2.
