Stolen bakkie concealed in Weenen

Captain Struwig encourages residents to be vigilant about their property

An operation targeting stolen vehicles was held in Weenen last Thursday and it yielded positive results.

Members of the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section were in the Maqomfini area when they spotted a red Toyota Hilux bakkie without a vehicle licence disc.

According to a police report the vehicle was concealed in a nearby bush, which seemed as if someone had attempted to hide the vehicle.

Police were drawn to this suspicious vehicle and after a closer inspection, it emerged that the bakkie was stolen.

“The vehicle was stolen at Ekuvukeni days earlier on January 22. It was stolen while parked at the owner’s home,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

A case of theft of a vehicle is being investigated by police.

Captain Struwig encourages residents to be vigilant about their property and offers these words of advice: “In the interest of keeping your property safe from theft, police have noticed a recent trend in the theft of motor vehicles.

Older make of vehicles are being targeted, particularly Toyota and Nissan 1400 bakkies.

“Take extra precautions to secure your property when parked in the central business district and while parked at home overnight.

“Take time to double check whether your vehicle is properly locked and that no one suspicious is watching you or your vehicle.”
