Armed robbers ambush nuns at Nardini Convent

The brazen bandits allegedly smashed the window with a firearm and may have assaulted the nuns in the struggle before they made off with the bag containing the cash.

Robbers struck at Nardini Convent yesterday, attacking two nuns and making off with a substantial amount of cash.

According to reports, the two nuns were returning to the convent from First National Bank, when they were attacked by two gun-wielding thieves, who had been lying in wait in a silver-grey Hyundai I20, parked near the convent.

The brazen bandits allegedly smashed the window with a firearm and may have assaulted the nuns in the struggle before they made off with the bag containing the cash.

Neighbourhood Watch responded and assisted local police in tracking the getaway car back to Lakeside where they discovered the vehicle had been abandoned and the suspects had fled in another vehicle.

The suspects are still at large and it is believed that they may be linked to other recent armed robberies in Vryheid.

Anyone who can offer any leads on their whereabouts should contact Detective Thwala of Vryheid SAPS.
