Residency Road a hot-spot for theft

Police appeal to the community to report suspicious activity involving vehicles and people they see moving around in the area

In the interests of protecting the property of the Ladysmith community, Ladysmith police are advising the public that the Residency Road area has been recently identified as a ‘hot-spot’ for theft out of motor vehicles.

On Monday, residents at a block of flats in Residency Road awoke to find several of their vehicles broken into. It is believed that the vehicles were targeted overnight by suspects who stole items from inside the vehicles.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual is requested to contact Ladysmith Detective Services on 036-638-3329. Other residents or businesses in the Residency Road area are kindly requested to view and make available any CCTV footage taken on the day and evening in question which may have inadvertently captured images of the suspects.

Police further appeal to the community to report suspicious activity involving vehicles and people they see moving around in the area. It is also important to ensure that your vehicle is housed overnight in a secure facility or locked garage in order to limit the opportunity for these crimes. Also ensure that the entrances and exits at your complex or block of flats are well secured at all times to discourage any criminal elements from entering the premises.
