Mrs Mocktar celebrates a milestone birthday

Mrs Sumintra Ramsunder Mocktar celebrated her 100th birthday last Wednesday

A centenarian is a person who lives to or beyond the age of 100 years and if we are lucky to reach this milestone in our lives, it should be celebrated with pomp.

This was precisely the case when Mrs Sumintra Ramsunder Mocktar celebrated her 100th birthday last Wednesday. The birthday girl took centre stage at a party held at the Maha Gaythri Temple and was surrounded by friends and family as a special song, that focused on the importance of a mother, was dedicated to her.

A short history of Mrs Mocktar’s life told of how she was born on January 13, 1916 in Wasbank.
Her family then relocated to Pomeroy. Mrs Mocktar married Mr Ramsunder Mocktar in 1941 and the couple had three daughters.

The couple lived in Estcourt and became grandparents to six grandchildren. Mrs Mocktar also has nine great grandchildren.

The centenarian’s vigour for life was applauded, with residents saying that Mrs Mocktar can often be seen tending to her garden and keeping busy by sewing.
