Two men were arrested and two illegal firearms seized in an ‘intelligence-driven’ operation in the Pomeroy area. Police from the Umzinyathi Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit, assisted by the Newcastle Public Order Police, swooped on the area last week. The men, aged 33 and 40, were arrested.
Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition was confiscated.
The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province. Both suspects have appeared in the Msinga Magistrates’ Court for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
