1. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

This movie takes on a different angle with a hilarious all round effect. Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer get involved in solving an intricate murder case. Val Kilmer plays a mach gay detective. This movie is different to a typical Christmas movie. A definite must watch!

2. Love Actually (2003)

With the theme of love, you can expect gooeyness and warmth. This movie follows the lives of eight couples dealing with their love lives before Christmas. Bill Nighy adds a comedic genius to the movie. This movie makes you feel good and warm inside. It is corny but everybody will love it.

3. Rise of the Guardians (2012)

This is a completely original animation based on a team of Immortal Guardians that protect the innocence of children against the evil spirit Pitch. It is action-filled with a cool bad guy. It is also filled with themes of hope and dreams.

4. Home Alone (1990)

This is a 90s classic. This is a fun movie about an 8 year old boy who is accidently left behind while his family fly to France for Christmas and has to protect his home from burglars. This a traditional movie you have to watch with the family!

5. Die Hard (1988)

This one is for the action lovers. When the whole building gets held hostage during a Christmas party, John McLane (Bruce Willis) tries to save his wife and several others. This is an action-packed movie with a Christmas theme.

6. The Family Stone (2005)

This movie portrays how families should understand and accept each other no matter how different they might be. When an uptight businesswoman (Julia Roberts) accompanies her boyfriend to their Christmas celebration she has a hard time fitting in with the unconventional family. Everybody will relate to somebody in the story.

7.The Nativity Story (2006)

The essence of Christmas is based on this story. The story follows the arduous journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem based on the biblical account of Jesus’ birth. If you don’t know the story, watch this.

8. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Based on the book by Dr Seuss, this is a brilliant tale of a creature, the Grinch (Jim Carrey) that tries to steal Christmas from the Whos in Whoville. Jim Carrey is hilarious in anything that he is in. Teaches a lot of morals and will leave the whole family in stitches.

9. Polar Express (2004)

A story about a boy who boards a magical train headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus’ home. Filled with doubt about the existence of Santa the boy encounters adventure and self discovery in the process. This is a completely different, never-told story with different themes and depth. Tom Hanks plays most of the characters brilliantly. This is an easy movie for adults to watch with their children.

10. Miracle on 34th street (1994)

This is a remake of the 1934 movie about the cutest little girl in television history (after Dakota Fanning) who discovers dreams do come true if you really believe. With themes of miracles and goodness, this movie will definitely lift your spirits.
