Police investigate solar light theft

The theft has spread and almost all the solar panels were stolen

A case of theft has been opened at the Estcourt police who are investigating the disappearance and vandalism of the solar street lights in Khwezi.

Earlier this year, a resident noticed that the solar panels from the street lights fixtures were missing. This was confined to a portion of the road.

Another resident informed the Estcourt News that the theft has spread and almost all the solar panels were stolen. He wanted to know what steps the local municipality was taking to correct this.

In response Umtshezi’s Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla said that the municipality was aware of the theft and was awaiting a report back from the police investigation.

“A case was opened. Once feedback is received from the police, you will be notified,” added Mr Dladla.
