Rat glue causes bird carnage

It is unclear where the children are getting the rat glue traps from.

A sudden spate in reckless juvenile behaviour has been reported by the Dundee and District SPCA.

Young boys have been seen using rat glue to trap pigeons near TFS in downtown Dundee. “They couldn’t have been older than 10 years old,” said Kavish Ramcharan, SPCA Inspector.

The birds’ feathers get stuck together making it impossible for the pigeons to move.

It is not possible to remove the glue from the feathers without ripping it from the skin.
Birds trapped by this cruel method end up dying of exhaustion and/or starvation.
Two birds that were rescued were taken to the local vet where they later died.

“The NSPCA banned the sale of commercial glue strips to kill rats many years ago,” said Linda Milne, SPCA committee member.

TFS has promised to be more vigilant and look out for the boys. Young boys have also been seen using a ‘kettie’ to shoot pigeons in Coronation Park.
