Police continue to clamp down on crime

Police in the Uthukela area have arrested five suspects for cases of possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of dagga

Police in the Uthukela Cluster continue to work hard to combat crime ahead of the upcoming holiday. During crime prevention activities held on December 3 and 4 police in the Uthukela area have arrested five suspects for cases of possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of dagga.

Visible policing members from the Amangwe SAPS swooped on the Gourton Taxi Rank on Thursday, December 3. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested with two parcels of dagga in his pocket.

The suspect has been charged for being in possession of dagga. He will appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court soon. On the morning of December 4, at about 12.20am a 29-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Nkomokazini area of Amangwe.

Amangwe police were following up on information about possible unlicensed firearms in the area, which led to the arrest. The suspect was found in possession of a revolver, which was loaded with six rounds of ammunition. The suspect should be appearing in court early next week.

Amangwe police continued the hard work and at about 11am when they arrested a second suspect for possession of unlicensed ammunition.
The small stash of 41 rounds of ammunition was discovered by police at a residence in the Ngonyameni area of Amangwe.

One suspect (22) has been taken into custody. The suspect does not possess a firearm licence and therefore could not be in possession of the ammunition. He will appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed ammunition.

Neighbouring police station, Estcourt, added their hard work to the mix by conducting a stop-and-search operation in the early hours of Thursday, December 3. The operation was held on the Loskop main road.

During the operation one person, aged 18, was arrested after being found in possession of a small quantity of dagga. The suspect is due to appear in the Estcourt Magistrates Court.
