Local motorcycle clubs have shown their hearts are truly gentle.

The Reds, Boanerges and Stealth Riders motorcycle clubs hosted rides on Friday and Sunday respectively, to raise funds for Duncan Vermeulen’s final operation.

This operation was postponed until next year.

“The bikers saw the articles on Duncan and decided to host these get-togethers,” said mother, Louise Vermeulen.

Despite her determination to raise funding for the Shalom Help Fund, which has helped get Duncan through five operations, Mrs Vermeulen said she understood times were tough all round.

However, she feels the pressure as time goes by.

“I’m not holding up well; when they told me the operation might not go ahead, I was very sad.”

Although the operation will now go ahead, the Vermeulen family are trusting their faith in God to get them through times to come.

“Thank you to JJ, Elize and Esmeralda for organising the events, and as a family, thank you to all who contributed towards the fund.”

The Stealth Riders said the ride was the second it had hosted, and made at least a R500 profit from the day’s activities.

“Taking into consideration there were not as many entries as we had prepared for, we still showed a profit. We take this opportunity to thank every biker, family member who attended the run,” said Gert and Petro, on behalf of the Stealth Riders.
