High temperatures collapses town power supply

Power outages to continue for the rest of the day?

With temperatures in the early to mid-40s, air-conditioners, refrigeration plants and electricity use in general sky-rocketed, according to municipal officials.

The demand was jut too much, causing a system-wide emergency shutdown.

Power has since been restored, but officials have appealed to residents to limit use of air-conditioners and other electricity intensive appliances if possible.

“Obviously we understand it is hot and we are not expecting everyone to suddenly turn off every air-con, but do not leave ones on in rooms you are not in,” advised the official who asked not to be named.

The official press release is “power has been fully restored. No fault was detected.” Sporadic outages will continue to occur as long as the system cannot meet demand.
