Carjacking attempt foiled

The driver called for help from members of the community and the suspect fled from the vehicle

A 23-year-old suspect faces a charge of attempted carjacking after trying to hijack a car on Monday.

A man driving in the hospital area stopped at a stop street and within seconds, the suspect got into the back seat of the unlocked vehicle and instructed him to drive to a local garage.

The driver kept his cool and instead drove to his nearby home. He called for help from members of the community and the suspect fled from the vehicle.

Members of the community chased the fleeing suspect until he was apprehended and handed over to police.

He will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court later this week.
