Water – the situation is dire

The picture shows Grootgewacht Dam two weeks ago. It is AbaQulusi Municipality’s strategic reserve of water. There has been a technical problem with releasing this water so that it flows into Bloemveld Dam, from where it can be purified for the town’s consumption. The problem should be resolved this week. Meanwhile the little rain has made no difference. Klipfontein will shortly fall below 30% of its capacity, if it hasn’t already. And apparently, according to metered water consumption figures, the town saved less than 4 kilolitres in the last measured month. Less than 4,000 litres! It’s time to get serious, folks!
