Vryheid High School – Dedication gets rewarded

Judging by the number of certificates and trophies awarded, sport and cultural activities at this school are of a very high standard.

ON Wednesday, October 21, we held our annual Sport and Cultural Awards event where many learners were rewarded for their achievements throughout the year.

The highest awards of the evening were: Kultuurraad van Vryheid: Skild vir die Kultuurpersoonlikheid van die Jaar: Candace Nel; VHS –Trophy: Sportswoman of the Year (Not-school related sports): Cara Klingenberg; ABSA Bank trophy: Sportsman of the year (Not school related sports): Leeshen Bhoonpersad; PJ Fourie Trofee: Veelsydigste Sportvrou: Nicole Muhl; PJ Fourie Trofee: Veelsydigte Sportman: Gerhard Smit; VHS Trofee: Sportvrou van die Jaar: Melanie Niebuhr and VHS Trophy: Sportsman of the Year: Pietie Keeve.

On Thursday, October 22, the annual Academic Prizegiving Ceremony was hosted where learners received recognition for their academic achievements.

The following was the highest achievement: Lukhona Mpungose NTT Toyota Trophy for ENGHL donated by NTT Toyota; NTT Toyota Trophy for ACCO donated by NTT Toyota; Van Wyk Trophy for Life Orientation donated by the Van Wyk family; Sanlam Trophy for MATH donated by Sanlam; Headmasters Award: Head Boy donated by Van der Nest Pharmacy; Klotz Trophy for Head Boy sponsored by Matt Engineering; Honours: Academic achievement; Honours: Sci-Math; Merit Certificate: First in Gr 12 St; Merit Certificate: First in all Gr 12 and Cash donation made by First National Bank.

The leaders for 2016 were also announced and the following were selected as head leaders: Deputy head girls: Danielle Kriel and Zemvelo Ndaba; Deputy head boys: Msizi Mbatha and Lungisani Mncube; Head girl: Zhanique Eckersley and Head boy: Tobias Niebuhr.

Congratulations to all learners who received prizes.

To the Grade 12s, the following advice for the exams: “Learn as if praying won’t help and pray as if learning won’t help!”
