The biggest loser takes it all

A mammoth task; a 90-day weight loss challenge designed to separate the men from the boys.

A mammoth task; a 90-day weight loss challenge designed to separate the men from the boys.

New Active Gym recently hosted a winter weight loss challenge for members.

“We gave them an eating plan, extra classes and personal training to help them,” said New Active General Manager, Dalene Botes. “We also had weekly weigh-ins to monitor their progress.”

The biggest loser, Bonisiwe Zwane, managed to lose just over 13 kilograms during the course of the challenge.

“She worked really hard. She was here every day and never missed a class,” said Mrs Botes. “She followed a high protein, low carbohydrate and no sugar eating plan.”

An elated Ms Zwane said she’s never felt better than she does today. Despite the challenges, she worked tirelessly to attain a summer-ready body.

“Following the eating plan was the most challenging part, but I tried my best,” she said. “The first week was the hardest.”

At the beginning of her journey, Ms Zwane said she could only muster up the strength to walk 2.5 kilometres.

“Now I can jog 10 kilometres. “I am extremely happy and energised!” she exclaimed.

Steadfast in her belief that weight loss is a lifetime commitment, Ms Zwane vowed never to go back to the way she used to be.

Her advice to those working towards losing a substantial amount of weight is simply to try their best.

“Focus on what you want to achieve and look after your body,” she concluded.

As the overall winner, Ms Zwane received an all-expenses paid weekend away for two, a free gym membership for the period of six months, personal training for six months, spa vouchers to the value of R1 800, reflexology treatments, as well as a voucher from Blackrock Casino.

The New Active team thanked Rosewood Day Spa, Blackrock Casino, Autobarn Parts People and Styling Hair Studio for their contributions to the grand prize.

Congratulations Bonisiwe!
