Close to 400 stolen livestock recovered

35 stock owners issued with fines for contravening the Animal Identification Act

395 stolen stock – including cattle, goats, sheep and horses – were recovered in areas such as Nongoma, Babanango, Ceza, Mondlo and Bergville during a stock theft operation conducted from October 9 to 16.

Stock Theft Units in KwaZulu-Natal yielded positive results, arresting 80 suspects for various stock theft cases in order to curb this crime in the province.

35 stock owners were each issued with fines for contravening the Animal Identification Act.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the officers for their hard work, saying, “We would like to reiterate to all stock owners to ensure that their livestock are properly marked as per the Animal Identification Act, as this will ensure a swift return to the original owners if stock is recovered.”
