Damaged stormwater drains are unsightly and potentially hazardous.
Vusi Mboyana, Director for Civil Services, asked Newcastillians to report damaged stormwater drains to the traffic department on 034 328 4700 or 034 312 1222.
He also encouraged residents to contact the Department of Technical Services on 034 317 1270 if they were aware of any potholes or damaged or blocked stormwater drains.
Mr Mboyana said he would investigate what steps could be taken against culprits who damaged stormwater drains.
“We will have to check if there are bylaws in terms of this violation, or I will assume the person can be fined or arrested for damaging council’s property and assets.”
