Widespread road damage requires urgent attention

A resident noticed the growing number of roads and sidewalks that have been damaged

Road damage is rampant around Estcourt and is not confined to the central business district but also affects residents in residential areas, sometimes right in their driveways.

Whether the damage is caused by potholes, heavy duty vehicles, water or sewer pipe repairs or maintenance, it usually takes weeks before the road is repaired and most times, the road repair leaves much to be desired.

A resident noticed the growing number of roads and sidewalks that have been damaged, especially after Uthukela District Municipality staff has repaired a leaking pipe.

He pointed out one case where a person’s driveway was transformed from a tarred entrance to a muddy and sand-filled mess.

Another example shows a hole dug up on a sidewalk to repair a leaking pipe.
The uncovered hole has been in that state for more than a month.

The resident hopes that the relevant authorities would sit up and take notice of the many roads that are damaged in and around Estcourt.
