NGOs and charities – don’t miss the lotteries boat

THE NATIONAL Lotteries Commission (NLC) has urged NGOs and charities to act quickly in submitting their applications for funding for the coming year.

NLC Commissioner Charlotte Mampane says that although NLC has received a number of applications, some organisations had already missed the closing dates for their category.

“The closing dates for applications for Arts, Culture and National Heritage organisations in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and Western Cape is October 22, while those applying for small grants in the Charities Sector have until November 12,” she says.

Mampane says that organisations wishing to apply for funding need fill out a funding application form which may be delivered, along with the relevant documentation, at the NLC’s head office in Tshwane or other NLC provincial office’s before the closing dates.

“We unfortunately cannot consider late applications, ” she says.

Mampane explains that the selection process will be adjudicated by the Distributing Agencies. “Organisations applying for funding need to adhere to set criteria in order to be considered. Preference will be given to organisations that advance rural, under-privileged and poor communities that support transformation and development,” she says.

List of closing dates per category:

Arts, Culture and National Heritage (Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Western Cape): Opened 14 September 14, Closing October 22.

Charities – Small Grants: Opened October 1, Closing November 12.

Sports and recreation sector- category 1: Opened October 11, Closing November 23.

Sports and recreation sector- category 2: Opening October 25, Closing November 30.
