AS PART of their oversight work, members of the KZN Legislature will visit all five municipalities under Zululand District Municipality (ZDM,) to inspect service delivery ahead of the Taking Legislature to the People programme which will take place towards the end of October in Nongoma.

The visits to all Zululand municipalities – Ulundi, Nongoma, AbaQulusi, Phongola and Dumbe – will take place this week. Five delegation teams, made up of members from all parties in the KZN Legislature, will visit various projects and service delivery sites in each municipality. Over two days, they will inspect progress made by provincial departments, district and local municipalities in bringing about accelerated service delivery in communities.

Members of the Legislature conduct routine oversight visits in all districts of KZN to gain first-hand information on the state of service delivery in the province.

The last visit to Zululand municipalities was undertaken in 2012 where various projects were inspected when they were still being implemented. The projects include housing, roads, clinics, electricity, agriculture, water and schools.

Delegation teams will be led by the following MPLs: Vuyelwa Tambo – Ulundi Municipality; Happy Blose – Nongoma Municipality; NhlakaniphoNtombela – Phongola Municipality; GuguSimelane-Zulu – Dumbe Municipality; ZaneleLudidi – Abaqulusi Municipality.

After the visits, a consolidated report will be compiled and presented to the sitting of the Legislature in Nongoma at KwaGqikazi FET College on October 29-30. The Premier, MECs and Mayors from Zululand will be expected to respond to the issues raised in the report.
