Talana Live weekend here at last

Come meet the storytellers and hear their ghostly stories, experience life in the British and Boer camps and the museum which comes to life after sunset.

The long-awaited Talana Live weekend is here at last with cooler weather (maximum 16 degrees today, tomorrow 23 degrees with partly, cloudy weather with no rain).

The action starts today, Friday, with the Night at the Museum experience from 6pm at Talana Museum.  Come meet the storytellers and hear their ghostly stories, experience life in the British and Boer camps and the museum which comes to life after sunset.

Food will be on sale at the historical camps and ride on the Ghost Train.

Saturday is the big day with a parade through town with a pipe band, classic cars, Boers, Brits, horses  and more.

The Mineworkers’ March Commemoration takes place at 11am from Dundee Secondary to Talana. Leading it will be the Matthew Marwick, great-grandson of the original leader and Phila Mseleku, taking the role of Prince Pheka kaDinizulu.

A the Museum there will be plenty to do – heritage games, crafts, lots to eat, Indian and Zulu cultural experiences, historical demonstrations, join in the treasure hunt at the Museum, photograph yourself in historical costumes… then there is the re-enactments of the battles of Talana to enjoy along with a Red Coats battle tactics demonstration – there is a miniature train and lots more….. including the bumper Wheels Thru Time expo.

Lotus FM will be broadcasting live at Talana Museum during Talana Live.

Then in the evening make your way to the Moth Shellhole, corner of Willson and Beaconsfield Streets, from 5.30pm for a braai and a chance to watch the Boks/Welsh rugby World Cup quarter-final.

On Sunday, you can walk the Dundee Heritage Trail and watch a wreath laying ceremony at Gen Penn Symons grave at St James Church and at the Dutch Reformed Church. Visit places of interest in and around the town.
